In its latest quarterly report, we find out that Sony sold 3.3 million Playstation 5 consoles in the last quarter, which is exactly the same number of consoles as last year. This means that the Japanese company has now sold a whopping 25 million PS5s since launch. However, the company will be far from reaching its goal of 18 million consoles by 2022.

Despite Sony selling the same number of consoles as last year, revenue is up 12 percent from last year, but profits are down 49 percent following the company’s purchase of game developer Bungie earlier this year.

Sony has revised its revenue projection for next quarter downward to due an expected drop in first-party game sales. However, it’s bullish on the next fiscal year, aiming to ship 23 million PS5 units in that time. Interestingly, it also still expects to 18 million units by the end of the fiscal year (March 2023), so it may still have something up its sleeve.
